LIMITED HOURS AT THE CHURCH OFFICE

The Koloa Union Church office will be operating on limited hours until April 21. Dollie Brierley will be filling in as her schedule permits and will be checking messages on the church phone (742-6622) Monday through Thursday while our Administrative Assistant, Penny Osuga, is on vacation.

Kahu Alan Akana will be in the office this week Monday and Tuesday (8-11 a.m.) and in meetings and appointments away from the office most of the rest of the week.

Please leave a message if you wish to speak with Auntie Dollie or Kahu Akana.

WAINEKE WORK DAY

The Waineke Cabins Committee (including our own Uncle Diki Sugawa) will be hosting a special event this weekend, April 1st and 2nd:

  • Friday, beginning at 3 p.m. Games, free time, singing, sharing about the cabins, and Uncle Diki’s famous oxtail soup for dinner!
  • Saturday: Painting, cleaning, fixing up the cabins and grounds, plus some free time for hiking and relaxing. Bring a brush if you want to paint.

Added Bonus: There is no fee for spending the night at the cabins on Friday night!

Holy Week Services and Activities

Maundy Thursday, March 24 (7:00 p.m.)

We will worship on this special evening with a communion service in remembrance of Jesus’ last supper.

Good Friday, March 25 (10 a.m. to noon)

Children and their families will decorate easter Eggs and have lunch in Moore Hall.  (The eggs will be used in the Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday).  Please sign up if your children plan to attend.

6:30 a.m. Multi-church Sunrise Service at Kukuiolono Park in Kalaheo

9:00 a.m. Breakfast in Moore Hall

10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday Worship Service in the Sanctuary and Sunday School in Moore Hall

11:45 a.m. Easter Egg Hunt & lunch at the Parsonage  (3281 Waikomo Rd)

One Great Hour of Sharing

This special offering of the United Church of Christ supports disaster relief, refugee support and development throughout the world.  We will collect the OGHS offering on Palm Sunday (March 20), Maundy Thursday (March 24) and Easter Sunday (March 27). Please use the special offering envelope provided in your bulletin on those dates or write “OGHS” on your check.  Mahalo nui for your generosity!

Final Soup Supper,  Wednesday, March 16, 2016

The last of our six Lenten soup suppers will be this Wednesday. Soup served at 6:00 pm in Moore Hall.  At approximately 6:45 pm we will continue our discussion on “Getting Grounded” as we focus on Chapter 6 (“Neighborhood”) in the book Grounded: Finding God in the World, A Spiritual Revolution by Diana Butler Bass.  Please join us.

Palm Sunday, March 20, 2016

The children will open our worship service with the annual procession of the palms during the opening hymn.  Children are invited to be at church by 10:15 a.m. to receive palm branches and processional instructions.

We will be showing “War Room” on Friday night, March, 4, 2016, 6:30 p.m.

This is an American Christian drama on the topic of prayer; the movie encourages us to seek God’s wisdom in dealing with our daily issues and challenges. Bring a comfy chair or pillow if you wish.

Membership Gathering

Sunday, March 6, 2016 in Moore Hall.

Kahu Akana and the Deacons will meet with people who are interested in learning more about Koloa Union Church and what is involved in becoming a member of our congregation.  The gathering will take place after Aloha Hour, approximately 12:30 to 2:30.

Tuesday Morning Breakfast

Uncle Diki serves breakfast at 7:30 every Tuesday morning during the winter months for anyone who would like to join us.  Please put your name on the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board and mark the days you can attend.

Henry Opukaha’ia Sunday

On February 21, we collected our annual offering for “Henry Opukaha’ia Sunday.”  The money goes to scholarships for current and prospective pastors in Hawaii.  “Henry O” was the first known Hawaiian to convert to Christianity.  If you did not get a chance to contribute to this fund and you would like to do so, feel free to send a check with the “Henry O” notation.  Thank you for your generosity.
