LIMITED OFFICE HOURS: Please note that we will continue to have limited hours at the church office while our Administrative Assistant is on vacation and Kahu has several meetings away from church this week. We are staffing the office with volunteers as available. Feel free to leave a message on the church answering machine of contact Kahu or Penny directly on their cellphones.
CHOIR PRACTICE: The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. Please come, and bring a friend.
CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING: The Church Council will meet on Sunday, October 16, at 12:30 p.m.
ANNUAL SPRING RUMMAGE SALE: Saturday, April 22, 2017, 8 a.m. – noon. We are accepting your rummage sale donations at the church. Call the church (742-6622) or Judyth (818-726-1344) for drop-off times. We welcome all smaller items, larger items later (storage space is an issue). Our goal is to have both storage sheds full of your donations. Profits will be used for our youth activities.

NEIGHBORS IN NEED
We will collect our “Neighbors In Need” special mission offering this coming Sunday, October 2, as we celebrate World Communion Sunday. We thank you for giving generously as we join congregations throughout the country in addressing issues of mission and justice. This year’s focus is on child hunger.
WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY
World Communion Sunday is a celebration observed by Christian throughout the world, taking place on the first Sunday of every October. This special celebration of Holy Communion promotes Christian unity and ecumenical cooperation. Please join us on October 2.

WAINEKE WORKDAY September 23-24, 2016. It is time to spruce up our much-used Waineke cabins in Kokee. Lots of cleaning and refreshing to be done. The cabins are showing a bit of wear and tear. We would appreciate your help. Details to follow.

JESUS AND THE SEA
I enjoyed our worship service at the beach on Sunday! Our theme was “Jesus and the Sea.” We took a look at how people in biblical times felt about large bodies of water, and it was not all positive. We also considered the two passages in Mark’s Gospel where Jesus calmed the sea, and I encouraged us all to consider what we might learn from those passages, even though our feelings toward the sea might be significantly different from the feelings that the original hearers of these stories may have had. The bottom line: God is with us during the times of chaos and fear, and because of God’s presence, we can stand firm with the confidence that God’s love is always with us. My prayer for all is that we will stand firm in the times of chaos and fear in our lives because of our faith in God’s loving presence.
I look forward to seeing you on a Sunday morning again soon!
